Activities in the Czech Republic

czechFoRS, the Czech national platform of development NGOs, is organising a series of activities related to the launch of the 2009 CONCORD AidWatch report on the reality of aid delivered by the European Countries to developing countries.

14 May: press conference and street performance – Prague

Starting at 10:30 at the Information Centre of the UN, the press conferenceAid is more important than ever” will focus on the introduction of the AidWatch report and Czech specifics; it will also look at the issues of financing development and the commitments of the G20, the GAERC meeting presided by the Czech Republic in May and the commitments of the EU, as well as on the role of aid in times of economical recession.

The session will be moderated by  Tomáš Tožička (FoRS).  Jana Krczmářová (FoRS) will present the AidWatch report; Petr Lebeda (FoRS) will talk about the impact of crisis on the developing countries; Michal Broža (IC UN) is invited to speak.

The street performance named “We are bailing out the rich, now let’s bail out the poorwill take place from 11:00 starting in front of Nový Smíchov.

This street theater performance is designed to show that governments are capable of financial miracles overnight when it comes to saving the rich, and that the long term crisis of the poor can never get such an attention. It also shows a difference of impact on the rich and poor of the world. The theater will be photographed by the media and our photographer. Short videos will be recorded and published through various channels.

28-29 May: Effectiveness in Development Education and Awareness Raising – Prague. Organised within the EU Presidency of the Czech Republic by FoRS, the Czech NGDO platform and People in Need (PIN) in cooperation with the CONCORD Development Education Forum. Aim: to provide a forum for stakeholders to share best practices on Development Education and Awareness Raising actions, on strategic frameworks for their implementation and on diverse tools for increasing quality of such actions. Participants are kindly asked to cover their travel costs, while FoRS and PIN will cover accommodation, lunch and refreshments during the conference. Limited number of places available.
